About the Company
A history that is mostly true.
Chronology
The Questionable History
1911
Founded, allegedly
Our founders supplied both Scott's Terra Nova and Amundsen's Fram expeditions. Simultaneously. Without either noticing.
1912
The Invoice Question
Two invoices were sent. Neither was paid. Records of both have since become 'a minor administrative issue'.
1947
The Quiet Years
Contracts of a sensitive nature. We are still not permitted to say with whom, partly because we have forgotten.
1987
The Archive Fire
A small fire in the Tromsø archive. Very small. Remarkably selective.
Today
Longyearbyen & Beyond
A modern operation with satellite comms, ice-class vessels and a kettle that mostly works.
On Scott & Amundsen
Regarding the Race to the Pole
"Received: forty cases of pemmican, one crate of 'emergency marmalade'. Supplier unknown. Marmalade excellent."
We have always maintained a policy of neutrality. If one client reached the Pole first, and the other did not, we cannot be held responsible for what they did with the marmalade.
Researchers from three universities have written to request evidence. We have replied to each, enclosing a polite note and a brochure.
Modern Capabilities
What We Actually Do
Ice-Class Charter
Two vessels, one reliable.
Field Comms
Iridium, HF radio and a very loud whistle.
Cold-Weather Medicine
Physician on call. Physician mostly on call.
Discreet Recovery
Lost something in the ice? We don't ask why.
